SAMPLE
DNS & DHCP CONFIGURATIONS
Because of the many variables
involved with configuring DNS / DHCP services
such as the types of queries, the number of
domains, the number of records, the type of
traffic, the location of the data, the perceived
performance expectation, etc., it is difficult to
be absolutely definitive about what DNS and IP
Commander configuration will work best in your
company.
However, there are some tried and
true configurations that we can recommend as
starting places. A couple of suggestions to
remember:
1) it is always better to separate
the DNS and DHCP services on separate servers to
better scale performance and to increase
availability (if one server fails, all the
services don't fail with it)
2) there is a one-to-one
relationship between primary and secondary
servers using IP Commander (1 primary to 1
secondary)
3)
there is a one-to-many relationship between
primary and secondary servers using DNS Commander
(1 primary to many secondaries)
