Introduction to Cubix Density System 1200

Cubix Density Systems are rack mount systems that can hold up to four dual SMP or eight single processor Pentium computers. Each computer consists of a Cubix  plug-in computer plus an additional slot for third party boards such as an internal modem, fax board or additional LAN adapter.  Each  computer can be independently powered on or off, or reset with controls on the front panel.

What are "plug-in computers"?

Backplanes

The key to flexibility in Cubix Systems is the backplane. It is installed in the bottom of the system, and determines how many CP, DP or SP Series plug-in computers can be installed.  There are three different backplanes available for the density System.

4X DP Backplane

Configured with 8 groups. Supports up to 8 independent CP/SP Series plug-in computers.

Each group contains:

2X DP + 4X SP Backplane

Configured with 6 groups. Supports any combination of up to 4 independent SP Series and 2 DP Series (dual-SMP) plug-in computers.

What are "Groups"?

Multiplexor

A multiplexor is built into the system to control all the DP or SP Series plug-in computers. The multiplexor allows you to share a common floppy disk drive, monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Disk Drive Bay

Hard disk drives for the independent computers in the system are installed in the Disk Drive Bay in the front of the system. They are installed on single or dual drive tray assemblies.

Power Supplies

Three power supplies are installed in the back of the system.  The purpose of the multiple supplies is to provide fault tolerance in the event of a single power supply failure.
