1.2 EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION

1.2.1 Introduction

The Wollensak Model 2770AV is a compact, high speed cassette-tocassette duplicator with a Master and two Copier positions in one smartly styled steel and walnut case. The 2770AV duplicates the Master cassette on two Copy cassettes at a rate of 16 times the original Master cassette speed (two C-30 cassettes in less than one minute).

The Model 2770AV is based on Wollensak's field-proven heavyduty mechanism. The unit contains all-solid-state components mounted on glass-epoxy circuit boards for easy accessibility and reliable service. The controls and indicators are easily accessible on top of the unit and the rear panel. The unit weighs only 33 pounds (15 kg) and is ideally suited for desk-top use. The 2770AV is ordinarily used in the horizontal position. However, it will also operate in a vertical position if this better suits your space requirements. Special grippers prevent the cassettes from falling out when they are ejected in vertical position. Cassettes may be duplicated one track at a time or both tracks simultaneously. If desired, the tracks on the Master tape may be transposed on the duplicate (Channel 1 to Channel 2 and Channel 2 to Channel 1) by using the TRANSPOSE position on the CHANNEL selector.

Automatic END-OF-TAPE or END-OF-PROGRAM rewind allows each cassette - at your option - to stop at the end of your tape or when the Master program ends. No need to wait for the entire Master tape to end before your duplicate cassettes can be removed. Both aural and visual monitoring provide added convenience.

Other outstanding features include Cassette Guardian Faulty Cassette Sensing, Automatic Erasure and Hysteresis Synchronous Motors for high speed accuracy.

This highly efficient duplicator is ideal for training departments, sales departments, and other business communications; in libraries to produce copies of instructional tapes for individual use; in educational material centers to duplicate Master cassettes for distribution to individual schools; in religious institutions for mass distribution of sermons and other materials -anywhere that fast, high quality cassette copies are desired.

The most inexperienced person can use the 2770AV because colorcoding and illuminated pushbuttons make the controls and indicators easy to see, use, and understand.

The Wollensak Model 2780AV provides add on capabilities to the basic Model 2770AV. As the Model 2780AV is but an extension of Model 2770AV all of the operating features offered by the Model 2770AV are carried over. The Model 2780AV has but a single operating control. The only interconnection between the two units is an umbilical cable that supplies all necessary signal and logic commands required for operation.

1.2.3 Operating Controls Model 2770AV/2780AV
(See Figure 1.1)

1.- POWER SWITCH (2770A V ONLY). The POWER switch is operated with a push-push alternate action and provides power to the complete unit. The face of the switch button lights red when power is on.

CAUTION

Do not remove power from unit while in an operational mode. Irreparable damage may result if power is removed before the operational cycle is completed.

2.- START BUTTON (2770A V ONLY). The START button is operated with a push action and places the individual modules in the operational mode. The push button face is illuminated white during operation.

3.- CHANNEL SELECTOR. The CHANNEL selector is used to select the tracks to be duplicated. Setting the selector on I enables one mono track (lower half of tape) to be duplicated without distrubing any existing program on the other track. Old program material will be automatically erased on the track being duplicated. Track 2 alone can be duplicated by placing Master cassette with side 2 up. Settin

the selector on 1 AND 2 allows both tracks to be duplicated at the same time. Setting the selector on TRANSPOSE I AND 2 will transpose track locations from the Master to the duplicate tapes.

NOTE

The TRANSPOSE button must be pressed in to permit turning knob to TRANSPOSE position.

4.- RECORDING LEVEL CONTROLS. Two RECORDING LEVEL controls independently control the output level of each channel. For recording duplicate copies at the same program level as Master tape (when duplicating on conventional tape cassettes), turn controls counterclockwise until they click into AUTO position. When only one track of a Master is to be duplicated, set control of unused channel to MAN "0" so that no signal from this channel will be fed to

'Copier. or high output or low signal level Master tapes, Copier. controls to increase 'or decrease ro ram output according to the meters. As a momentary loss of program signal may occur if levels are adjusted while duplicating, it is advisable to preview Master tape program level before beginning duplicating. Play tape and if meters indicate output level needs adjustment, pre-set controls to necessary point.

NOTE

When copying tapes having a sync or control signal recording, use AUTO position for the sync channel, disregarding the meter indication.

5.- RECORDING LEVEL METERS. Meters indicate level of program being distributed to Copiers. If the Master tape has been recorded at a normal program level, the meter pointer should occasionally swing to the center "0" mark when the RECORDING LEVEL controls are in the AUTO position The reference points on the meter scale are useful in adjusting output of the Master to compensate for nonnormal Master tape levels and for various tape types in duplicate cassette. When Copiers are loaded with conventional tape cassettes, output levels should be set at the center "0" mark, unless RECORDING LEVEL controls are set on AUTO. High output tape cassettes sometimes require a higher than normal recording level and you may choose to set output level to a higher reference mark (after first experimenting to determine that it is the most suitable level).

6.- REWIND SELECTOR (2770A V ONLY). The REWIND selector, when set at AUTO, will program the unit to rewind automatically the cassettes when the END-OF-PROGRAM or END-OF-TAPE is reached, depending on which selection is made at the AUTO REWIND SELECT switch (7). If REWIND selector is set on OFF, the unit will stop when END-OF-TAPE is reached (the AUTO REWIND SELECT will automatically switch to END-OF-TAPE). Turning the REWIND selector to MANUAL will rewind the cassettes immediately.

7.- AUTO REWIND SELECT SWITCH (2770 AV ONLY). The AUTO REWIND SELECT switch, when set at END-OF-TAPE position, will automatically rewind each cassette as it reaches its end, when the REWIND selector (6) is set on AUTO; this enables the full length of old cassettes to be erased. When set to END-OF-PROGRAM, all cassettes rewind automatically when the recorded portion of Channel I on the Master cassette has ended, and before the END-OF-TAPE is reached. This can be a timesaver when erasure beyond that point is not required. Programs must have reasonable continuity; if not, use END-OF-TAPE position to prevent premature rewinding. Selecting END-OF-PROGRAM will automatically place the REWIND switch in AUTO mode.

8.- EJECT LEVER. The EJECT lever is automatically locked out when unit is copying. Cassettes should be removed only when unit is stopped. Pull down on EJECT lever to "pop-up" cassette for easy removal.

9.- TAPE CASSETTE PLATFORM. For proper operation, cassette must be pushed all the way onto spindles. Automatic lock-out prevents removal of cassette while unit is copying. If only one copy is to be made, either copier position may be used.

10.- RECORDING LAMP. Lamp flickers red during recording to indicate presence of a program signal thus allowing visual monitoring of duplicating. When both channels are being duplicated, the lamp responds to both signals simultaneously. When only one channel is being duplicated, and the unused CHANNEL RECORDING LEVEL control is set at MAN "0", the lamp responds only to the active program.

11.- WARNING LAMP. Lights up white cassette jams or if Copier tape runs out before Master tape is finished (tape will stop or rewind if in AUTO REWIND mode). This indicates possibility of an incomplete duplicate program, assuring only perfect copies from each Copier. Warning lamp will not go out until cassette is removed.

(See Figure 1.2)

12.- RECORDING BIAS. A five-position BIAS selector, located on the rear panel, enables proper bias to be selected for conventional tapes and for future formulations.

13.- MONITOR OUTPUT (2770AV). Standard phone jacks located on the rear panel accommodate headphones or monitor speakers for aural monitoring. Keep in mind that program material will be unintelligible due to the sixteen times normal duplicating speed.

14.- OUTPUT TO ADD-ON MODULE. A Cinch Jones connector(s) is mounted in the rear panel of the 2770AV/ 2780AV to allow interconnection between units.

15.- POWER CORD (NOTSHOWN) (2770A V DOMESTIC ONLY AND 2780A V). The permanently attached 3-wire grounded power cord located on the rear panel, supplies power to the unit when plugged into a 115-120 VAC 60 Hz outlet.

16.- POWER SOCKET (NOT SHOWN) (2770ES EX PORT MODEL). An AC socket has been provided on the rear panel in place of a power cord. An appropriate power cord plugged into this socket will supply the necessary power to the unit when plugged into a 220 VAC, 50 Hz outlet.
