   • John Karcher, Eugene McDermott resign from Amerada Petroleum Corp.
   • Karcher, McDermott leave secure jobs, stake careers on new technology
   • Reflection seismography employs signal processing in search for oil
   • May 16: Firm incorporated as Geophysical Service, informally known as GSI
   • GSI first independent firm specializing in reflection seismograph method
   • Future leaders H. Bates Peacock, Erik Jonsson and Cecil Green join GSI

1938
   • GSI begins effort to separate oil interests from geophysical exploration
   • Dec. 23 - Incorporated in Delaware as Geophysical Service Inc. (GSI)

1939
   • Name changes to Coronado Corporation
   • GSI becomes subsidiary with McDermott as president

   • Name changed to Texas Instruments Incorporated; GSI becomes subsidiary
   • McDermott named chairman; Jonsson named president; Green heads GSI unit
   • Patrick Haggerty named executive vice president, director

1952
   • TI enters semiconductor business with purchase of transistor license

1953
   • First public Annual Report issued
   • Oct. 1 – TI lists on NYSE via merger with Intercontinental Rubber Co.
   • Central Research Laboratories (CRL) established
   • To diversify, TI buys Engineering Supply Company, Houston Technical Labs

1955
   • TI introduces first commercial product, the recti/riter recorder
   • Purchase completed of 300-acre Expressway Site
   • TI Limited (UK) incorporated

1957
   • Production begins in Bedford, UK – first non-U.S. semiconductor plant
   • TI enters Italy market with establishment of TI Italia S.p.A.

1958
   • Jonsson named chairman; Haggerty named president
   • Semiconductor (SC) Building dedicated on Dallas Expressway site
   • Jack Kilby invents integrated circuit

1959
   • TI merges with Metals & Controls Corp., based in Attleboro, Mass.
   • Merger adds sites in Holland, France, Italy, Mexico, Argentina, Australia

   • April 29 – Board approves 2-for-1 stock split
