Generic Desktop Agent Product Description

Olivetti Generic Desktop Agent is a SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) extension agent running on Windows NT and Windows 95.

The main goal of this agent is the support of the autodiscovery phase made by the Olivetti Server View Management Station. During the autodiscovery phase, the Server View management station issues a SNMP get request for a specific MIB obiect (olivetti.genericpc.osType).

The systems that answer to this get request (i.e. the systems on which the Olivetti Generic SNMP Desktop is running) are represented in the Server View global map as "Generic Desktops".

For a generic desktop, the Server View console allows to view some general information (system OS type and version) and the standard MIB-II information (TCP/IP information).

It shows also if a generic desktop is ON or OFF, i.e. if it answers to the default polling, by coulouring properly the system in the global map. No event reporting (TRAPS) are handled for generic desktops.
