OLIVETTI EuroComputers July 01, 1999 System Identification Utility Ver. 2.15 SUBJECT: Instruction to use file d0all_prutsid215.zip. ========================================================== 1)Format a 1.44 MB diskette in your own PC with /s option, to transfer MS DOS (ver.6.2x) to floppy. 2)Copy the *.zip file to the temporary directory on the HDU. 3)Unzip the sysid211.zip file with the appropriate zip program. 4)Copy the structure to the diskette. 5)Boot the PC from the diskette. ========================================================== The utility allows to read/write the product and chassis dmi info for EuroComputers S.p.A. computers (both servers and desktops). Here is the history of this utility. SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.15 ====================================== 1) Manufacturer Name is changed to EuroComputers S.p.A. 2) Added support for M24 KD DT-E 3) Added support for new baseboard i440ZX-W977 WARNING: On latest NetStrada 9400 with Penthium 3, sysid does not work. SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.14 ====================================== 1) Now sysid can also read dmi info on NetStrada 7400, so the first warning of rel. 2.13 is removed WARNING: On latest NetStrada 9400 with Penthium 3, sysid does not work. SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.13 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Manufacturer Name is changed to Olivetti EuroComputers 2) For NetStrada 7400, now sysid uses a new way for writing the dmi info. WARNING: because of this change, now DO NOT use sysid (sysid -r) to read dmi info on NetStrada 7400, because it will not work (it may hang the server) On NetStrada 7400 use: frusdr -d dmi WARNING: for NetStrada 7400, the new way of writing the dmi info does not write the Chassis Manufacturer, so eventually old values written with a previous version will remain inside the system. As a workaround you can do the following: - flash an older Bios so that previous version of sysid (2.12) can be used - using sysid -r (version 2.12) produce the file dmiinfo - edit dmiinfo (edit also the chassis manufacturer setting it to: Olivetti EuroComputers) - use sysid -w (version 2.12) to write dmi info - re-flash the new Bios Do not use sysid (version 2.12) interactively because it DOES NOT write Olivetti EuroComputers SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.12 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Added support for: M 3000 DT-A M 7000 DT-A M 3000 MT-S M 7000 MT-S NetStrada 1400 Plus 2) For machine with Advanced Configuration Power Management Interface the last 2 digit of Version number are set to 05 meaning that ACPI is supported SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.11 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) For NetStrada 9400 in a rack mount chassis the denomination now is NetStrada 9400RM. Before it was just NetStrada 9400. 2) Added support for the M 3000 SL and M 7000 SL SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.10 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Added support for M24 KD DT SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.09 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Added support for NetStrada 9400 SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.08 ====================================== Modification or fixes to previous release: 1) On computers with motherboard LISBON with Bios 1.08, Sysid was not working because the bios failed to return a certain value. Now the problem has been solved, because Sysid goes to check if the motherboard is LISBON as well.* SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.07 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Added support for NetStrada 7400 SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.06 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1)In interactive mode now the chassis tag is set to null. Before it was set to 0. This created a problem with LanDesk manager. SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.05 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1)Now works on M 3000 2)Added some frequencies SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.04 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) New products have been added: NetStrada 1400, 3400, 5400, M 3000, M 7000 2) On some desktop support for sw packeges has been added SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.03 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) The new SGSf040 is supported on NetStrada 5000 2) For machines NetStrada 1200/S and M 6000 now sysid uses dwr2m.com SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.02 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Added M 6000 and NetStrada 1200/S to list of products NOTES for production: Sysid on M 6000 and NetStrada 1200/S uses dmiwr2m.com internally which works only if Bios Version is >= 0.6. Also the Baseboard name must be set to LISB-B. Otherwise sysid will not work. SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.01 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Added M 4000 and XANA 2 to list of products 2) When using "sysid -r" on Intels systems, sometime the chassis manufacturer was not correct SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 2.00 ====================================== Modification to previous release: 1) Allows also to read DMI info using the command "sysid -r" 2) The manufacturer name is now: "Olivetti Computers Worldwide" 3) Product names and frequencies have been added 4) Some internally used programs have been updated SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 1.02 ====================================== Same as previous release (see later) with the following modifications: 1) Now computers based on TriGem motherboard Florence are supported. 2) Because the utility needs to write to floppy, a check is done that the floppy is not write protected. When run on motherboard Florence some programs are used to write the information inside the computer. The last of this program "amifauto.com" reboots the system. SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 1.01 ====================================== Same as previous release (see later) with the following modifications: 1) Random code and Serial number are made of 6 and 7 characters 2) Oemdmi messages are not shown SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION UTILITY REL 1.0 ===================================== The MS-DOS utility in this diskette (sysid.exe) allows to set System Identification Information in some of Olivetti's pc and servers. To run it you just need to boot from the diskette. Because the utility needs to write some data on the diskette, please leave it UNPROTECTED. Do NOT run the utility from Windows. The utility asks the user the information to set and then writes the information inside the non volitile memory on the computer. The utility handles 2 classes of systems or pc. 1) the NetStrada 5000 and NetStrada 7000 servers (using flash_sv.exe) 2) all servers or pc based on Intel's board which use the oemdmi.exe utility. The handling of either flash_sv.exe or oemdmi.exe is done internally and the user or technician needs not be aware of it. The utility writes the following information: 1) System Product Manufacturer (fixed to "Olivetti Personal Computers") 2) System Product Name 3) System Product Version 4) System Product Serial Number 5) System Chassis Manufacturer (fixed to "Olivetti Personal Computers") 6) System Chassis Enclosure Type 7) System Chassis Version (fixed to null) 8) System Chassis Serial Tag (fixed to null) 9) System Chassis Asset Tag Number (fixed to null)
