Windows 3.1 Video Device
Driver for S3 chipsets.
The DOS version of the Windows Setup program installs and
modifies all of the necessary files. Follow these steps to
install the S3 Windows 3.1 or Windows 3.11 (Windows for
Workgroups) driver:
- After downloading the driver, you must unzip (decompress)
the file into a temporary directory (for example
C:\TEMP
).
- Exit Windows completely (do not attempt to
install the driver from a DOS session in Windows) and
change to your Windows directory; for example, if your
Windows directory is
C:\WINDOWS
, type:
c:
<Enter>
cd \windows
<Enter>
- From the Windows directory, type
setup
<Enter>.
This will start the DOS based Windows Setup program.
- Using the <Tab>, <Page Up>, <Page Down>
or arrow keys highlight the "Display" option
and press <Enter>. Use the arrow keys to highlight
"Other (Requires Disk Provided by Hardware
Manufacturer)" and press <Enter>.
- Setup prompts you to enter the path to the
driver files. Enter the location (for example:
C:\TEMP
)
and press <Enter>. Windows Setup then copies the
drivers to the appropriate directories on your hard
drive.
- When the installation is complete, select the
desired screen resolution, color depth and press
<Enter>. If Windows Setup asks you to select
<Enter> to update the driver files or <Esc>
to replace them, BE SURE TO PRESS <ESC> TO
"REPLACE"!
- After pressing <Esc> to replace, Setup
may again prompt you to enter the path to the driver
files, enter the location (for example:
C:\TEMP
)
and press <Enter>. Once the files are copied you
may exit the Setup program.
- Restart windows. The driver installation is now
complete.
