Chapter 9
Commuter Software Version Update Process
Commuter utilizes non-volatile memory to retain WorldDesk server software and configuration information. From time to time, Cubix may release new versions of the server software. WorldDesk Manager provides a facility through which the WorldDesk Server software on a Commuter may be updated.
To install a new version of software on a Commuter, first obtain the new software image from Cubix. The software image is a file whose name is of the form "WDmmddyy.CBX", where mmddyy is a string indicating the release date of the software.
Log in to WorldDesk Manager using an account that includes management set privileges in the cluster for the desired Commuter server. Note that in order to update a Commuter server, WorldDesk Manager must be running on a workstation with IPX/SPX installed. The "administrator" account always has management set privileges, and is probably the best choice. Use the right mouse button to click on the icon for the server to be updated, and select "Version Update" from the menu (see Figure 9 - 1).

Using the provided file box, select the "WDmmddyy.CBX" file described above. The remainder of the version update is handled automatically by WorldDesk Manager.
Note!
To avoid confusion, update multiple servers in a cluster sequentially rather than concurrently. It is recommended that all servers in a cluster operate on the same version of WorldDesk software in order to maximize compatibility and efficiency.
