    Preinstallation Inspection

Upon receiving the Cubix Resource Subsystem perform the following inspection:

    1. Remove the subsystem from its shipping box and place it on a workbench or table.

    2. Remove the top cover.

    3. Examine the subsystem:

The product name (e.g. "Resource Seven Subsystem") is on the front panel.

In Appendix A is a configuration sheet for each subsystem configuration. Remove the corresponding configuration sheet.

For each board installed in the subsystem, write its model number on the front of the configuration sheet in the space provided (e.g. BC 3030).

Take a few seconds to look over the sheet. It illustrates the configuration of the passive backplane, how many segments it contains, and how the segments are numbered.

    4. Perform a visual inspection of the subsystem. Verify that all boards are properly seated and that all cables are securely connected.

    Installation

    1. Connect a VGA monitor and a keyboard to the connectors on the rear of the Resource Subsystem shown in Figure 3-1.

    2. Connect the power cord to the subsystem and apply power.

    3. Attach the monitor and keyboard to segment one by pressing the "Select 1" button on the front panel.

    4. The BC Series processor in segment 1 will boot, perform a memory test, and then display a prompt to enter the BIOS Setup program. Enter the setup program, and enter the necessary information such as Time, Date, Hard Drive Type, etc.

For detailed information on the BIOS Setup program refer to the BC Series Installation Guide provided with the BC Series processor installed.

    5. If a diskette drive is installed for segment 1, insert a DOS diskette into that diskette drive. Otherwise the floppy is selected via the multiplexor along with the monitor and keyboard, and is accessed through the drive opening labeled "Multiplexed Drive".

    6. Reset segment 1 using the reset button on the front panel.

    7. Segment 1 will reboot and load DOS.

    8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 for each segment that contains a BC Series processor.

    9. If a hard disk is installed in the subsystem, format the drive to make it DOS bootable. Then run the BIOS setup program, and change the "System Boot up Sequence" under ADVANCED CMOS SETUP to C: , A:. This will allow each BC processor to boot from its hard disk.

Repeat this step for each segment with a hard disk.

    10. If you are booting each segment from an individual floppy diskette, create a bootable DOS diskette for each segment.

    11. Power off the Resource Subsystem.

    12. Install the LAN Adapters into each segment to be used in the subsystem.

    13. Install any other devices such as I/O boards, fax or internal modems at this time.

    14. Fill in the information on the configuration card found in Appendix A for each board installed. Then put the card in the front of this manual for future reference.

    15. Power on the system.

    16. Insure that each segment boots properly and that there are no hardware conflicts.

    17. Copy the necessary LAN Adapter drivers and network shell files to the hard disks or floppies.

    18. Reset each segment and verify that they successfully attach to the network.

    19. When all of the segments are working properly, power down the system and insure that all of the boards are properly secured. Reinstall the cover.

    20. Install the system software.
