Introduction

The Cubix NetWare Server is a hardware and software system designed to provide a fully integrated NetWare 3.12 File Server. However, each installation of a Cubix NetWare Server has unique configuration requirements. This guide provides an overview of the steps to be performed by the system installer. The system installer should be equipped with a working knowledge of NetWare 3.12 installation, configuration, and administration techniques. The Cubix NetWare Server can be installed in any one of the following Cubix hardware platforms:

* Enhanced Resource Subsystem (ERS)

* ERS Fault Tolerant Subsystem (ERS/FT)

* Branch Office System (BOS)

Hardware Platform

The Cubix NetWare Server is comprised of one of the subsystems listed above. Each subsystem is an enclosure containing an EISA or ISA passive backplane divided into groups of slots. Each fully configured group contains a BC Series single board computer, a network interface controller (NIC), and a hard disk drive. Thus each group is equivalent to a personal computer. An integrated multiplexor allows one monitor, keyboard, mouse and floppy diskette drive to monitor and control the BC processor in any of up to eight independent groups.

NetWare Server

One group in the subsystem is configured as the Cubix NetWare Server. It contains the following hardware and software. * BC Series Processor (single board computer) * IDE or SCSI Hard Disk Drive and NetWare Drivers * Network Interface Controller and NetWare Drivers * NetWare 3.12 or 4.0

Any reference in this documentation to the Cubix NetWare Server refers to the hardware and software installed in this group.

Manuals and Software

The following manuals are provided with the Cubix NetWare 3.12 System: ! Subsystem Installation Guide Documents the Subsystem hardware (ERS, ERS/FT, or BOS) ! BC Series Hardware Installation Guide Provides hardware information on the BC Series processor The hard disk drive of the Cubix NetWare Server has been divided into two partitions: a DOS partition and a NetWare partition. The software installed on the DOS partition is listed below.

The following software is provided on diskettes only: * NetWare SYSTEM_1 Diskette The following items are available at additional cost: * NetWare Documentation Kit - Contains the full set of manuals for NetWare 3.12 and a complete set of NetWare 3.12 diskettes If optional features are included in the system, additional manuals and software may accompany the Cubix NetWare Server. IMPORTANT

It is the responsibility of the installer to backup both the DOS and NetWare hard disk drive partitions. Note that the NetWare source diskettes are in compressed format on the DOS partition. Be aware that if a hard disk drive in the Cubix NetWare Server is replaced, the replacement drive will not contain any files.
