Overview

The following sections in this chapter explain how to configure an IES module:

. Data Highway Identification Number (Default is 1)

. Termination Switch (Default is OFF)

Data Highway ID Number

Up to 31 IES modules may be connected to one BC Supervisor on the Data Highway. The BC Supervisor is the BC processor running BCVision that manages the highway. Each IES must be assigned a unique identification number used as its address on the data highway. Address 0 is reserved for the BC Supervisor. IES modules can use addresses 1-31 decimal. Addresses 32-255 are reserved. The highway identification number of each IES is selected with two hexadecimal rotary switches located on the end bracket of the module. Figure 2-1 shows the rotary switches. The "MS" switch selects the Most Significant (or high order) hex digit of the ID number. The "LS" switch selects the Least Significant (or low order) hex digit of the ID number. If multiple IES modules are being installed, they should be numbered consecutively beginning with 01. Refer to Table 2-1 for switch settings.

Termination Switch

All IES modules and the BC Supervisor are connected together in a daisy-chained fashion. The device at each end of the chain must be terminated to ensure the data highway performs correctly. Through the end bracket, locate the 2-position DIP switch. If the IES module is to be at one end of the chain, set switch 2 to the ON (or down) position. If the IES module is to be in the middle of the chain, verify that the switch is in the OFF (or up) position. If the BC Supervisor is to be at the end of the chain, it must be configured to terminate the data highway (instructions for termination at the BC Supervisor are provided in the BC Supervisor Connection section of Chapter 3).

! Switch 1 on the DIP switch must always be in the ON (or down) position.
