CubixConnect
Chapter 3 - Testing the Installation
Testing Remote Node (PPPRNS)
Testing Remote Control (NCS)
Completing the Installation
The first step in testing the installation is to establish a remote node connection.
1. Install the NetWare 4.1 Client software on the remote PC. If the remote PC can be attached to a network with a NetWare 4.1 file server, the NetWare Client software may be installed from the SYS:/PUBLIC/NWCLIENT directory on a NetWare 4.1 server. Otherwise, the software may be installed from Novell diskettes. Because the remote PC will be seen by the network as a network node, the client software must be installed. Without it the remote node will not function.
2. Install the PPPRNS dialer as described in the NetWare Connect 2.0 Installation and Basic Configuration Guide. A compatible PPP dialer may be used instead of the PPPRNS dialer if desired (a PPP dialer is included in Windows 95). If the remote PC can be attached to the same network as the CubixConnect Server, install PPPRNS from the SYS:/SYSTEM/REMOTE directory on the CubixConnect Server. Otherwise, follow the steps below:
' From a workstation equipped with a floppy disk drive, log into the CubixConnect Server.
' Under the SYS:/SYSTEM/REMOTE/!!DISKS! directory are three subdirectories: DISK1, DISK2, and DISK3. Create three diskettes using the commands below:
xcopy disk1/*.* a: /s to create the 1st diskette
xcopy disk2/*.* a: /s to create the 2nd diskette
xcopy disk3/*.* a: /s to create the 3rd diskette
' Install PPPRNS from these diskettes as explained in the NetWare Connect 2.0 Installation and Basic Configuration Guide.
3. Invoke the dialer and establish a connection as described in the NetWare Connect 2.0 Installation and Basic Configuration Guide.
If remote control support is required, verify remote control functionality after remote node testing is complete. The instructions below assume that the ReachOut remote control software available from Cubix Corporation is being used. If another remote control product is being used, follow the instructions available from the remote control software manufacturer to establish and verify the remote control connection.
1. On the remote PC system, install the ReachOut Viewer software following the instructions in the ReachOut Viewer Quick Start Guide.
2. Load the Viewer software by entering:
view <Enter>
3. Follow the instructions in the ReachOut Viewer Quick Start Guide to establish a connection with the CubixConnect Server. This requires creating a phone book entry and dialing into the server.
4. Shortly after connecting, a screen will appear requesting a name and password. Enter:
User Name = ROHOST <Enter>
Password = <Enter>
5. A menu of NASI HOSTS will be displayed. This is the list of host workstations that have NASI and ReachOut HOST loaded. The names shown are the "NASI Session" names that are defined in the AUTOEXEC.BAT files on the host workstations. Refer to the Default Settings section of the Installation Chapter for an explanation of the session names.
6. Select any available NASI host from the list.
A prompt for the ReachOut password will be displayed. These passwords were set in the ReachOut password table during the installation of the host workstations. Passwords may be changed using the ReachOut SETUP utility on each workstation.
Next, the screen of the connected host workstation appears with the Novell Login prompt. Enter the network NAME and PASSWORD. A remote control connection to the network is established.
Once remote node and remote control functions have been successfully tested, system security must be configured. Use the online NetWare Connect Administration Guide located on the Novell NetWare Connect 2 CD ROM to establish security and services as required for this network configuration.
