IMPORTANT!
It is the responsibility of the installer to backup both the DOS and NetWare hard disk drive partitions on the CubixConnect Server. Note that the NetWare source diskettes are in compressed format on the DOS partition. Copies of the NetWare Connect diskettes also reside in the DOS partition.
*** IMPORTANT *** PLEASE READ ***
After verifying that the default configuration is functioning properly, the configuration should be modified for specific network security requirements. As shipped, CubixConnect provides no security! The online NetWare Connect Administration Guide, located on the Novell NetWare Connect 2 CD ROM provides the information needed to configure security of the CubixConnect system.
The system is preconfigured with defaults that allow testing of the main components of the system with only a few configuration changes. This guide describes the installation steps required to test the remote node and remote control functions of CubixConnect.
CubixConnect Server
The CubixConnect Server is based on NetWare Runtime. As with any NetWare server, certain parameters must be configured. These include the name of the server, the internal address of the server, and user and group specifications.
File Server Name: NWC-xxx
where xxx represents three characters uniquely identifying each CubixConnect Server. These characters are specified during installation and are appended to the server name by the installation utility.
Internal IPX Number: 35A014C5
This number may be changed by the installation utility or by editing the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
User Names (Use Novell's SYSCON or NETADMIN utility on the server console to modify):
Name Password
SUPERVISOR NONE
GUEST NONE
ROHOST NONE
Groups (Use Novell's SYSCON or NETADMIN utility on the server console to modify):
QLVISION If Cubix QL Series boards are installed in the CubixConnect, the QLVision management utility requires that users be a member of this group.
NetWare Connect
NetWare Connect is the software application installed on the CubixConnect Server. The parameters that must be configured for NetWare Connect include the port settings and port groups (see the online NetWare Connect Administration Guide provided on the Novell NetWare Connect 2 CD ROM for details). CubixConnect is preconfigured as illustrated in Table 2 - 1 and Table 2 - 2.

Host Workstations
If the remote control functionality of CubixConnect is to be utilized, the workstations serving as hosts for the remote control sessions must be configured. A user name and password (previously configured for the CubixConnect Server) must be specified, and a unique session name must be assigned to each host workstation. These parameters are designated in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the host workstations.
BC Hosts
Name ROHOST
Password NONE
Session Name BCxy
where x=Subsystem number, y=Group number
QL Hosts
Name ROHOST

Session Name QLxxx
where xxx=QL Node number
To resolve problems with any step in the installation process, refer to the full documentation for the product being installed. This installation uses a set of pre-defined defaults to enable CubixConnect to be tested. Do not make any changes during the installation that are not documented.
1. Connect a VGA monitor and keyboard to the CubixConnect subsystem as described in the Series II Subsystem or Branch Office System user documentation.
2. Power on the system. If necessary, press the Enable button on the front panel to enable the multiplexor and get video support on the monitor.
3. On the front panel, select the group containing the CubixConnect Server with the multiplexor. The monitor, keyboard, and floppy drive will now be attached to the CubixConnect Server.
4. The system will boot DOS and prompt the user to press the C key to continue or the A key to abort. Press the C key to continue the installation.
5. Follow the screen prompts to select the following options for the CubixConnect Server installation:
' Server Name
' Internal IPX Number
' Network Interface Controller (NIC)
' NIC Network Address
' Number of MP 2008 I/O Boards Installed
' QL Series Boards Installed (See Appendix A)
6. Once the installation options are configured, the installation utility will copy the NetWare Connect license information and the NetWare SERVER.EXE file to the CubixConnect Server. These files are on the diskettes in the NetWare License envelopes.
7. After the SERVER.EXE file is copied to the hard drive, the CubixConnect Server will boot and stop at the NetWare console command prompt.
8. At the CubixConnect Server console prompt, type:
CBX-COPY <Enter>
9. After reading the information on the screen, type:
DOWN <Enter>
EXIT <Enter>
10. Power off the CubixConnect system.
11. Connect the NIC in the CubixConnect Server to the network cabling system.
12. If BC processors are installed in the subsystem, connect the NIC for each BC Host to the network cabling system.
13. Power up the CubixConnect Server. It will load NetWare Runtime and Connect.
14. At a workstation on the network, run SLIST to ensure that the CubixConnect Server is on the network. If the server does not show in the list, the cabling or network address set in the preceding steps may be incorrect.
15. Run Novell's SYSCON utility, select the CubixConnect Server, and set passwords for users, GUEST and SUPERVISOR. Do not assign a password to ROHOST at this time. After CubixConnect is installed and tested, user ROHOST may be password protected or deleted.
The default setup has NO passwords defined.
16. On the CubixConnect Server, the NetWare Connect Options menu will be displayed. Select the Configure Netware Connect menu option and press <Enter>.
17. Select Ports and press <Enter>. The Communication Port Configuration screen will be displayed.
18. For each port (CUBIX_AIO_00 through CUBIX_AIO_07), cursor down to the port and press <Enter>. Then cursor to the Modem Type and press <Enter>. Specify the type of modem connected to this port.
! The port number is indicated on the cable coming from the MP 2008 board.
19. When a modem is configured for each port, press <Esc>. Select Yes to save the configuration changes.
20. Continue pressing <Esc> until the NetWare Connect Options menu is displayed. Select View NetWare Connect Status and press <Enter>.

Installation of the CubixConnect Server is Complete.
If remote control services are required, proceed to the Host Configuration section later in this chapter. Otherwise, proceed to Chapter 3 - Testing the Installation.
This section applies only to installations utilizing the remote control functions of CubixConnect.
The NASI Connection Service (NCS) for NetWare Connect allows network workstations to function as "NASI hosts" for remote control sessions. Each NASI host must be installed with network shell files, the NASI interface, and a remote control communications program such as the ReachOut Host.
Cubix BC Series Remote Control Hosts
CubixConnect optionally includes BC Series workstations configured as ReachOut NASI Hosts. All of the necessary software is integrated onto the hard drive of the BC workstation. An installation program on the hard drive allows the user to configure each workstation for memory type, installed NIC, and other options.
Please refer to the BC Series Remote Control Host Installation Guide for installation instructions for Cubix configured BC Series remote control hosts.
Cubix QL Series Remote Control Hosts
Cubix QL Series workstations may optionally be integrated as NASI hosts for CubixConnect. Please refer to Appendix A for installation and configuration instructions.
Installing Other Remote Control Hosts
If the NASI hosts have not been configured by Cubix, they must be configured with the appropriate remote control software at this time.
Shown below is a sample AUTOEXEC.BAT file for a properly configured NASI host. In addition, it is recommended that the NET.CFG file on the host include the following command:
spx connections = n
where n is 2 times the number of virtual connections plus 1. For example, for 18 virtual connections, the statement is:
spx connections = 37
For information on the command line options for NASI, see the NetWare Connect 2.0 User's Guide.
