CubixConnect
Appendix A - QL Series Installation
Preinstallation Procedure
QL Series Installation Utility
The QL Series installation utility will install the QL Series drivers and utilities on the server designated during installation. The QL Series processors will function as NASI hosts for CubixConnect.
Before starting the QL Series installation, make the following decisions:
Server from which the QL Series will boot
The QL processors need a "designated server" on the network to store their boot files and the ReachOut and NASI software. The designated server must have ample connections to allow all of the QL processors to boot as workstations on the network. The server will also be listed as the "preferred server" in the NET.CFG file for the QL Series hosts.
Do not select the CubixConnect Server as the designated server. The CubixConnect Server is based on NetWare Runtime, and therefore supports only two connections.
For future reference, enter the name of the server to use as the QL Series "designated server" below:
QL Series Designated Server: _____________________________
Network Address for the QL Series
The QL Series boards require a network address. Assign a unique eight digit hexadecimal network address that is not already in use on the network. If multiple QL boards are installed in the same device, they will share one network address.
For future reference, enter the unique QL network address below:
QL Series Network Address: ________________________________
1. At a workstation on the network, log onto the designated server as SUPERVISOR. Map a drive to volume SYS.
2. Attach to the CubixConnect Server as SUPERVISOR. Map a drive to volume SYS.
3. On the CubixConnect Server, change to the /CUBIX directory.
CD /CUBIX <Enter>
4. Execute the QLINSTAL utility with the command line options shown below:
QLINSTAL x: y: <Enter> where: y represents the drive letter mapped to volume SYS on the CubixConnect Server x represents the drive letter mapped to volume SYS on the designated server. Example: QLINSTAL F: K: <Enter>
5. Follow the prompts on the screen. The QLINSTAL utility will perform the following functions:
* Add the designated server name to the QL LAN driver and to the NET.CFG file in the QL Series image file.
* Copy the QL Series LAN Drivers and NLM files to /SYSTEM on the CubixConnect Server
* Copy the following files to the designated server:
QL Series Boot files to /LOGIN QL Utilities (QLVision) to /SYSTEM/CUBIX ReachOut Host to /LOGIN/REACHOUT NASI Interface files to /LOGIN/NASI
* Execute the ReachOut Host SETUP utility (allows the password information and communications parameters to be entered).
* Create a user QL_HOST on the designated server. This user name will be used by the QL workstations to log onto the designated server and load the NASI and ReachOut Host software.
* Create a batch file (QLUSER.BAT) for the QL Series boards, placing the statements into the batch file to automatically load the NASI and ReachOut software on the QL workstations when they boot.
6. After completion of QLINSTAL, enter the appropriate command on the CubixConnect Server console:
For QL 3000 Series boards: QL3_EXEC <Enter> For QL 4000 Series boards: QL4_EXEC <Enter>
7. From a workstation on the network, run the Cubix QLVision utility to verify that the QL Series workstations are functioning properly. The QL utilities are located on the designated server.
* Type: CD /QLx000/UTILITIES <Enter> where x = 3 for QL3000 4 for QL4000 QLVISION <Enter>
* Select the QLVision Server Functions option from the QLVision menu. The QL Board Type, Net Address, and the Designated Server should be displayed.
* Select the designated server.
If the designated server information does not show on the screen, the QL Installation utility did not complete successfully. See the Troubleshooting Chapter in the QL Series Installation Guide. Do not continue the installation until the QL workstations are fully functional.
* Select Node Functions from the QLVision menu.
One line of data will be displayed for each QL workstation installed, including such information as the Address, Status, and Deadman resets for the workstation.
If the above information does not show on the screen, the QL Installation utility did not complete successfully. See the Troubleshooting Chapter in the QL Series Installation Guide. Do not continue the installation until the QL workstations are fully functional.
* When each QL workstation shows Active status, connect to each workstation by selecting it and pressing the <Enter> key. Verify that each workstation has successfully booted.
To return from the viewing mode, simultaneously press and hold the <Left CTRL> and <Left SHIFT> keys.
8. Exit QLVision.
The QL Series workstations are now installed and functional.
When dialing into CubixConnect, the available QL hosts will be displayed as follows:
QL_HOSTxx where xx represents the QL node number.
See the QL Series documentation for more information on the QL Series boards.
