Backplane Configuration
Backplanes
The key to flexibility in Cubix Systems is the backplane. It is
installed in the bottom of the system, and determines how many DP or SP Series plug-in computers can be installed.
There are three different backplanes available for the density System.
4X DP Backplane
Configured with 4 groups.
Supports up to 4 independent DP Series (dual-SMP) plug-in computers.
Each group contains:
1 board slot for the DP Series Processor board
1 board slot for the DP Series I/O board
One shared ISA/PCI expansion slot that can be used for a third party ISA or
PCI circuit board (only one board can be installed).
8X SP Backplane

Configured with 8 groups. Supports up to 8
independent SP Series plug-in computers.
Each group contains:
1 board slot for the SP Series Processor board
One shared ISA/PCI expansion slot that can be used for a third party ISA or
PCI circuit board (only one board can be installed).
2X DP + 4X SP Backplane

Configured with 6 groups. Supports any combination of up to 4
independent SP Series and 2 DP Series (dual-SMP) plug-in computers.
Group 1-4 contains:
1 board slot for the SP Series Processor board
One shared ISA/PCI expansion slot that can be used for a third party ISA or PCI circuit
board (only one board can be installed).
Group 5-6 contains:
- 1 board slot for the DP Series Processor board
- 1 board slot for the DP Series I/O board
- One shared ISA/PCI expansion slot that can be used for a third party ISA or
PCI circuit board (only one board can be installed).
