How is power managed within the Precision Rack 1100?

Power is distributed within the PR1100 so that if a power cable or circuit is disconnected or fails, power continues to flow through the other power cables or circuits, ensuring that the entire cabinet full of Cubix equipment remains fully operational. Each number 1, 2 and 3 inside the cabinet represents a 120Volt, 15Amp outlet. See the illustration below.

What power source does the Precision Rack 1100 use?

Cubix provides three 30 Amp power cords for PR1100, which supports three Density chassis. Each Density can be fully loaded. Customers can discard these power cords and hire an electrician to connect the PR1100 to the room’s wiring using three 30Amp power circuits if they wish.

What does the 30Amp power plug look like, and how does it work?

As shown in the illustration at the right, the 30Amp plug (NEMA L5-30P) has three prongs. After inserting the plug into a 30A receptacle (NEMA L5-30R), you twist it slightly to assure a solid electrical connection. The plug is rated 125Volts at 30Amps.

You can either plug these into 30A receptacles or into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or into the room’s electrical outlets. You may decide to discard the 30A power cord and hire an electrician to wire the Precision Rack directly to the room’s wiring.

How can I connect PR1100 to a UPS?

You can connect the power cords directly to a UPS. Specify to the UPS vendor that you require three  30Amp receptacles as specified above. If you choose to connect the cabinet directly to the room’s power (wired by an electrician), the room’s electrical system must be protected. This provides a much higher level of protection than a UPS designed to protect only a few computers.

Where in the PR1100 should I place the 1U rack mount keyboard and mouse tray?

Place the keyboard and mouse tray above the second Density space.

How are these cabinets shipped?

Precision Rack cabinets are shipped fully assembled.

What is the purpose of the ethernet patch panel?

Density systems are capable of supporting from 8 to 16 separate ethernet connections (one or two per server times as many as 8 servers). The ethernet patch panel is used to organize the cable connections from the ethernet hub or switch to the connections on each server.

How sturdy is the Precision Rack?

Extremely sturdy. Unlike many racks on the market that look delicate and feel flimsy, Precision Racks are incredibly solid, featuring 14 gauge steel construction. The removable side panels are lightweight, magnetically latched and extremely easy to remove and replace.

What accessories are available for the cabinet?

The Precision Rack is configured more completely than many other rack cabinet products. It includes many items that are listed as options by other manufacturers such as dual high powered fans, internal wiring distribution, rear locking door, side panels, and power distribution blocks. A list of accessories includes a slide-out keyboard/mouse tray, fixed shelving, easy-roll casters, filler panels, ethernet patch panel, and a ventilated front door.

What is the KVM breakout box used for?

The KVM breakout box is where you connect your keyboard, video and mouse. A cable for keyboard, video and mouse signals runs from the video out connector on the back of the Density system to the KVM breakout box which is mounted on the rear RETMA rail within the Precision Rack cabinet.

Where do I mount my monitor?

A standard low cost monitor can be mounted on Precision Rack 1100s reinforced roof plate, which has a hole to route monitor cables to the interior of the cabinet.

Can I use a Precision Rack 1100 without a Density System inside?

Of course. Precision Rack 1100 conforms to RETMA standards and can house 3rd party rack mount equipment.

What third-party rack mount equipment is supported by Precision Rack 1100?

Almost any equipment that can fit and function within a standard 19-inch rack will work well within a Precision Rack. The Cubix external storage units, rack mount tape backup units, ethernet switches, hubs and so on are examples of industry standard rack mount equipment.
