Haven't seen the demo, but yes, the data itself is still hires,
but only bit pairs 00 and 01 (I presume) show the sprite, bit
pairs 10 and 11 hide the sprite with a lores-sized stripe. I
used hires-sprites, but is shouldn't matter, the priority
resolution circuit is independent of that.

It seems that multicolor mode affects only the 'real' display
data, but affects the priority resolution circuit all the time.
