About SETUP This is an ASCII file called Setup.TXT in the ATI CardAssistant INFO directory. Use a text editor or a word processor with a mono-space font such as Courier to print this file if needed for reference. ************************************************************ ** ** ** SETUP Configuration and Diagnostics Program ** ** ** ************************************************************ ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Contents -- ------------------------------------------------------------ I. Loading SETUP II. SETUP Operation III. Troubleshooting General ======= The SETUP.EXE program on the CardAssistant diskette is used for viewing and changing the hardware settings for speed and duplex, running Diagnostics, and viewing the information files. Special Considerations ====================== The AT-2700FTX will not show link status when the UTP port is used until either the diagnostics or a software driver (ODI,NDIS, etc) is loaded. Also, do NOT set the hardware (Setup.exe) to Auto-Negotiate. This will cause the drivers to not function properly. I. Loading SETUP ================ To load the setup utility: The SETUP program on the CardAssistant disk1 is used for viewing/changing Configuration, running Diagnostics, and viewing information files. 1. Boot the computer into DOS with no drivers loaded. For Windows 98 and Windows ME boot with the windows startup disk. 2. Insert the CardAssistant disk1 in the floppy drive and launch SETUP; type "A:\SETUP". Use the arrow keys to select the card (if necessary). Press ENTER. Select Configuration, Diagnostics, or View information files. If SETUP is not loading properly please see Section III. II. SETUP Operation =================== Once SETUP is started, the screen will show information for the installed AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card(s). The main screen shows the Adapter model, MAC address, current speed and duplex setting, and the current BootROM port setting. To get to the Main Menu press Enter. The following explains the options in the Main Menu: 1. Configuration: Under Configuration are options to change speed and duplex, and the BootROM port. a. Speed/Duplex: This option allows the user to configure speed and duplex to one of the available options. The options for speed and duplex vary depending on adapter model. b. BootROM Port: The BootROM port setting is only for multi-port AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Cards with BootROM support, specifically the AT-2450FTX, AT-2700FTX, and AT-2745FX. When using one of these three adapters in a BootROM configuration, it may be necessary to change these settings (More Info is available in the BootROM.txt file). For any other AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card the BootROM Port setting should not be changed. 2. Diagnostics: Under Diagnostics are options to a Card test or a Network test. a. Card test: This test checks several parts and functions of the Adapter card to ensure proper operation of the adapter card. b. Network test: This test allows the user to send and receive raw packets without a driver loaded to check the adapter functionality. 3. View information file: Information files cover many topics related to use of the AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet adapter card. These files reside in the INFO directory on the CardAssistant CDROM and are meant to be viewed in SETUP. To get context-sensitive help in SETUP, press the F1 key when prompted on the status line of the main window. III. Troubleshooting ===================== 1. On some systems, it is required to disable the Plug and Play OS option in the system BIOS for SETUP to function properly. This may be the case if: * The MAC Address SETUP reports is all zeros. * SETUP does not find an installed adapter present when there is one installed. * Unable to save new settings by pressing F10. * Misreports the IRQ or I/O value assigned to the card. How to do disable Plug and Play OS varies from system to system, so refer to the computer manufacturer's instructions for details. 2. In a dual card configuration with an AT-2450FT/T/AT/BT and an AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card, SETUP will not see both cards at the same time. To look at the AT-2450FT/T/AT/B, remove the other card from the machine and it will appear in SETUP. 3. No Link - If there is no link light or the link test fails in the card diagnostics, check that the adapter's speed and duplex settings match the link partners speed and duplex settings. The cable connections should also be checked. If it is fiber, the connectors might be reversed. 4. The AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter may not communicate on the fiber port if the adapter is set in hardware with SETUP to Auto Negotiate. A simple change of the speed/duplex setting will correct this issue.
