Special Considerations II. Installation III. Configuration IV. Restoring Factory Defaults I. Special Considerations ========================= This file covers the topic of installation and setup of a multi-port AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card with an installed BootROM provided by Allied Telesyn. These Adapters are: AT-2450FTX, AT-2700FTX, and AT-2745FX. These adapters are the only ones requiring a switch and any other card should just require installation of the BootROM for correct operation. II. Installation ================ There are two parts to the physical installation of the card: installation of the BootROM and installation of the card. 1. Install the BootROM on the AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card. Be certain the BootROM is installed so that Pin 1 of the ROM socket is aligned with Pin 1 of the BootROM. The BootROM is square with one corner cut, and the socket is the same. So if these two corners are matched, the pins will be correctly aligned. Verify that switch SW1 is in the correct position for the port that you wish to boot from (i.e. copper or fiber). ---------------------------------------------------- | | |-[|||] /|\ | | Fiber | | |-[|||] UP | | | | | |------| |--| |Copper| Switch SW1 |__| |------| | | | | | | | | | | _______ _ PCI Bus Connector _ _____| |____| |____| |_________________| |____| | | / ---------------------------------------------------- | Model | Default | BootROM port | BootROM port | | Number | switch | when switch | when switch | | | position| SW1 in Up | SW1 in Down | | | | position | position | ==================================================== ==================================================== | | | | | | 2450FTX | Up | Copper | 10Mb fiber | ==================================================== | | | | | | 2745FX | Up | 100Mb fiber | 10Mb fiber | ==================================================== | | | | | | 2700FTX | Down | Copper | 100Mb fiber | ---------------------------------------------------- 2. Now that the BootROM is installed and switch SW1 is in the desired position, install the AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card, with the computer off, according to the computer manufacturer's instructions. III. Configuration ================== Note: The switch SW1 and the BootRom Port entry in SETUP need to be the same. If they are not the same, the adapter will not function properly. Changing the BootRom Port entry on an adapter not configured for a BootROM may cause the adapter to not function properly. Configuration of the multi-port AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card needs to follow these steps to ensure proper configuration: 1. Run the SETUP program on CardAssistant disk1. SETUP is used for viewing/changing Configuration, running Diagnostics, and viewing information files. More info on SETUP is available in setup.txt located in the info directory. To Run SETUP, follow these steps: a. Boot the computer into DOS with no drivers loaded. (In Windows 95, boot into the "Command prompt only" option. Press the F8 key when the message "Starting Windows 95" appears, and select Command Prompt only, which is Startup menu choice 6.) for Windows 98 and ME boot with the windows startup disk. b. Insert the CardAssistant disk1 in the floppy drive and launch SETUP; type "A:\SETUP". Use the arrow keys to select the card (if necessary). Press ENTER. Select Configuration, Diagnostics, or View information files. 2. In SETUP, the BootROM port entry is listed in the upper right hand corner of the main screen. The switch SW1 and the BootROM port entry need to be the same. To change the BootROM port entry, select Configuration and then BootROM Port and select the desired port. 3. Press the F10 key to save the new settings. The new BootROM port entry will show up in the upper right hand corner of the main screen. 4. Now, speed and duplex need to be set in SETUP to match the link partner speed and duplex settings. With Configuration highlighted in the Main Menu select Speed/Duplex. Select the desired speed and duplex in order to match the link partner's settings. 5. Press the F10 key to save the speed and duplex setting. The new speed and duplex setting will show up on the main screen. 6. To close the SETUP program from this spot, press the escape key twice. 7. From here, the user or LAN Administrator can boot the machine from a network boot disk and configure the software accordingly. It is important to remember that the software driver is required to match the speed and duplex settings in SETUP and of the link partner. IV. Restoring Factory Defaults for Non-BootROM Operation ======================================================== If you want the multi-port AT-2450/2700 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card to be configured for non-boot operation, follow these guidelines. 1. Look at the table in Section II, and set the switch SW1 to the default position. 2. It is recommended to remove the BootROM if the Adapter is to be used for non-BootROM operation. 3. Following the steps in Section III set the BootROM port entry in SETUP so that it agrees with the default position of switch SW1. 4. Following the steps in Section III set the speed and duplex settings in SETUP to the factory default according to the table below. --------------------------------------------- | | | | Model | Default Speed/Duplex Setting | ============================================= ============================================= | | | | 2450FTX | Auto Negotiate | ============================================= | | | | 2745FX | 100Mb / Full Duplex | ============================================= | | | | 2700FTX | 100Mb / Full Duplex | --------------------------------------------- Now the card is back to the original factory settings to ensure proper operation in the supported Operating Systems following the installation instructions provided.
