A customer has been bugging me for weeks go figure out how to get his SCO UNIX system to print to printers attached to XP computers on his network, and I've finally gotten around to making it work.
It concerns me that the answer is "enable the passwordless Guest account", but in the environment in question it happens not to be a concern. So as is the custom, a Tech Tip was born:

Posted by Steve at March 12, 2003 09:22 PM | TrackBackJust a thought ... but couldn't you set up a dummy user with no password on the XP machine, say "print" with VERY limited privileges, say only access to printers and connect to that instead?
I know nothing about SAMBA printing (and only very little about sharing files) but this would seem to lessen any possible problems of haivng a wide-open guest account on an XP machine.
