Tivo upgrades rock!

I've had a 14-hour Philips Tivo unit for a coupla years (a kind birthday gift from my brother Jeffrey), and my friend Steve Gardiner has been bugging me to upgrade it - he's kind of a Tivo nut and has a couple of souped-up models. Well, last night I did, and it wasn't so bad at all. An old 61G hard drive I had lying around is now part of my 65-hour Tivo.

The instructions were clear, though there were so many choices and options that it was a little tricky picking out the parts that just applied to me, but anybody who's comfortable with tearing a PC apart can do this.

At some point I'll install the Ethernet card so I can do my schedule updates over the internet, but this will be another day.

Tivo rocks.

If you have an old 14 hour version, you probably don't want to do an "add" type TiVo upgrade - you should replace the drive with the new drive or drives.

A 14 hour drives is pretty old at this point, and doesn't have a ton of life left in it . . .

Don't sweat about changing the drives... it is EASY with MFSTOOLS2. You can back up your existing drive to your PC, and then write a copy out to a new disk drive (with or without programs at each step). This is a piece of cake... as long as you are comfortable with master/slave jumpers, and can follow instructions!

Luck!

If you have a chance, please check out our site (www.ptvupgrade.com). We were the first company to offer upgrade kits and services for TiVo upgraders, and even support networking capabilities, too!
