File Compression Information

  • Use PKZIP for .zip files
  • Use Mac Stuffit for .sit files
  • Use UNIX "compress" for .Z files
  • The .exe files are self-extracting Zip file
  • Adobe Acrobat files available from the FTP site can be viewed or printed offline using the Acrobat reader. The latest Acrobat Reader is available at the Adobe web site.

    The file, PKZ204G.EXE, is a self-extracting archive containing PKUNZIP and PKZIP version 2.04g for DOS. Please read LICENSE.DOC for important information on using these programs. To unzip files ending in ".zip", type PKUNZIP -D FILENAME.ZIP x:, where x: is the destination drive. The -D option will create the appropriate subdirectories on the destination drive. If you have problems using v2.04g, revert to PKZ110.EXE, PKUNZIP and PKZIP version 1.10 for DOS.

    The file unzip.sun4-sos4.1.1.Z is the compressed executable created by building valeria.cs.ucla.edu:/pub/unzip41.tar.Z on a sun 4/25 running SunOS 4.1.1 with the 'make sun' command.
